Objective: Operating staff were performed to determine the level of depression. Method: The universe of this research, which is of a characteristic type, was formed by 111 individuals working in a university hospital’s surgical room, and the sample was made by a total of 72 individuals, including 30 nurses working in the surgical room, 26 anesthetic technicians and 16 support staff. The data was collected between 1 and 30 June 2017 using the "Intentional Information Form" and the "Beck Depression Scale". The ethical board has been approved for the investigation. In the assessment of the data, the average, standard deviation, frequency, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis test were used. The average age of the operating staff is 36.50±7.00 years, with 59.7 percent women, 44.4 percent pre-graduate and 79.2 percent married. The Beck Depression Scale score is an average of 12.83±8.68 and the median is 12. According to the scale assessment, employees have been identified with a moderate emotional condition disorder. However, significant differences were found between gender, time of work in the profession and finding the job suitable and the Beck Depression Scale score average. The result: Individuals involved in the study found that they had a moderate emotional condition disorder. However, it has been found that women are more depressed than those who do not want to choose their profession and those who do not find their profession suitable for themselves. Based on these findings, health care managers have been suggested to make arrangements to reduce the state of depressive emotions, taking into account the negative feelings of employees about their gender and profession.

On the other hand, significant differences were found between gender, duration of occupation and occupational self-esteem and Beck Depression Scale mean scores. Conclusion: It was determined that the individuals who participated in the study had moderate mood disorder. However, it was found that women, those who did not willingly choose the profession and those who did not find themselves suitable were more depressive. Based on these results, it was proposed that health care managers should make arrangements to reduce depressive mood by considering gender and the negative feelings of employees regarding their occupation.
