Purpose: This research was carried out with the aim of revealing the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the students of Siirt University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and determining the consumption of animal products. Material and Method: The main material of the research is the primary data obtained through the survey from students studying at Siirt University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The study, based on the 95 confidence range and the 10% error share, included 78 students with proportional sampling. Results: The average monthly spending of the students' families on animal products was 660.95 TL, while the student's monthly spending on animal products was 198.26 TL. Students consumed 1.14 kg of red meat, 1.80 kg of chicken, 0.87 kg of fish, 2.38 lt of milk and 38 eggs per month. The factors that students most consider when purchasing animal products are, respectively, hygiene, freshness and the smell of the product. As women consume more eggs and the income of families increases, the student’s monthly red meat and egg consumption increases. Results: The study finds that the student’s animal product consumption is not sufficient and the amount of consumption varies depending on the income level. The lower prices of animal products will help students increase their consumption of animal products. In this context, a significant share in the production costs should be taken in reducing food costs. In the sale of animal products, hygiene and freshness issues need to be more careful.
