Abstract:

The universal design concept, defined as “the product, structure, or environmental design that a person can use in the most possible number and diversity” is becoming increasingly important today. In this design approach, unlike the accessible design that eliminates obstacles in the built environment; the artificial environment is included as one of the basic entries of the design that is accessible to all individuals without observing differences such as age, gender, culture, physical skills while designing. Thus, through special designs made in the artificial environment that cause groups such as disabled, elderly and children to remain in a disadvantaged state, the exclusion of these groups from others is also prevented. The play areas that play an important role in the development of children should also be designed taking into account children of different age groups and with different skills, such as all the artificial environment components. Thus, each child will have the opportunity to play, communicate, perform healthy physical activity, and learn together and benefiting from equal opportunities. In this context, the study aims to determine the current status and accessibility of the children’s parks located in the longest beach line open to pedestrian use in Istanbul Anadolu Square. The work area is limited to the part between Fenerbahçe and Pendik where the uninterrupted walking axis is available. Analysis of the game parks included in this section identified the shortcomings; recommendations from Turkey and the world have been developed with examples.
