Abstract:

The Republic of Turkey has been fighting ethnic and ideologically motivated terrorism for about 40 years, which extends its roots to the activities of the Revolutionary Eastern Culture Centers and emerged as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in 1978. In this process, the Republic of Turkey has to constantly review its anti-terrorist strategy in order to ensure its permanent security on its borders and to maintain its well-being. Specifically, along with the process called the Arab Spring, the power gap in countries such as Syria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt has led to the involvement of non-governmental actors. In this process, it is apparent that terrorist organizations have come to an effective position in some areas. The Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is trying to maintain its existence in Syria, with the support of global and regional forces, threatens the interests and life status of Turkey in the region. In this context, Turkey has carried out the Euphrates, the Olive Dale and the Peace Pine operations in order to eradicate the threat created by terrorist organizations in Syria. This article, in light of the current developments, aims to express Turkey’s Syrian policy. In the context of the PKK-PYD relationship, the activities of Turkey in Syria and the military strategies developed to protect national interests will also be discussed.
