Osmanlı coğrafyası, XIX. yüzyıl başlarından itibaren siyasi, ekonomik ve askeri alanda olduğu gibi eğitim alanında da uluslararası rekabetin odağı haline gelmiştir. Bu anlamda, İngiltere, Fransa ve Amerika arasında yaşanan rekabet sürecine yüzyılın son çeyreğinde Almanya da dâhil olmuştur. Kısa sürede Osmanlı coğrafyasının muhtelif yerlerinde birçok okul, kilise, yetimhane ve hastane açan Almanlar, diğer batılı devletler gibi eğitim ve kültürel açıdan Osmanlı topraklarında söz sahibi olmuşlardır. Almanların bundan sonraki hedefleri ise, Osmanlı Devleti sınırları içerisinde bir Türk-Alman Üniversitesi kurmak olmuştur.
Ottoman geography was started to be the playground of international competition in terms of political, economic, military and also educational areas at the beginning of the XIX century. Within this context, at the last quarter of the century, Germany was newly added to the already international competitors such as England, France and USA. In a short while, Germany founded many schools, churches, orphanages, and hospitals in the different parts of the Ottoman geography. Therefore, similar to the other Western countries, Germans also had a significant influence in terms of educational and cultural point of views on the Ottoman lands. Further, Germany also exerted great efforts to set up a German University within the borders of the Ottoman state.
