Rauf Yekta Bey, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin Türk müziği ve müzikoloji alanında öncü olduğu kadar önemli araştırmacılarından biridir. O, araştırmalar yaptıkça Türk müziğindeki tarihsel araştırmaların yokluğundan kaynaklanan boşluğun ne kadar büyük olduğunun farkına varan ve ilk akademik yöntemleri takip eden araştırmacıdır. O, Dünya müzikoloji tarihinde önemli bir yeri olan Fransız müzikolog D’Erlange’nin müzik ansiklopedisinde “Türk müziği” maddesinin yazarı olmakla Dünya müzikologlarından biri olarak anılmayı hak etmiştir. Rauf Yekta Bey, 1889-1938 yılları arasında Türk müziği tarihindeki boşlukları doldurmak için yazdığı bazı makalelerinde bazı kitapları Türkçeye tercüme yaptığından söz etmiştir. Türk müziğinin teorik ve tarihi kaynaklarının Türkçeye tercüme edilmeleri, doğu müziğini anlamak için D’Erlanger’in yaptığı ve yaptırdığı müzik tarihi kaynaklarının Fransızca tercümeleri kadar önemlidir. Rauf Yekta tek başına bu tercümeleri tamamlayamayacağının farkına varmış ve yetkililerden yardım istemiştir. Türk Müziği Tasnif ve Tespit Heyeti ve Maarif Vekaleti Müzik Eğitimi Encümeni üyelikleri gibi çeşitli resmi görevlerde bulunmasına rağmen umduğu desteği bulamamış ve tercümeler yapılmamıştır. Bahsettiği kendi tercümeleri basılmadığı ve kütüphanesi bugün dağılmış olduğu için hakkında biyografi yazarları farklı sayıda Rauf Yekta Bey’in tercümelerinden bahsetmişlerdir. Türkçeye tercüme ettiği eserler konusundaki bilgilerin çelişkilerini gidermek ve müzikolojiye katkıda bulunmak amacıyla bu makalenin yazımına karar verilmiştir. Bu araştırma Rauf Yekta Bey’in sadece Türkçeye yapmış olduğu varsayılan tercümelerle sınırlandırılmıştır. Bu araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemiyle konuya eğilmiş ve Rauf Yekta’nın tercüme etmiş olabileceğinden bahsedilen dokuz eser olduğunu tespit etmiştir. Tercüme edilen eserler konusunda bu rakamın gerçeği yansıtıp yansıtmadığı ayrıntılarıyla incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak her ne kadar dokuz eser adından söz edilmiş olsa bile, aslında Rauf Yekta’nın dört eserin tercümesinden söz edilebileceği ve üç eserin tercümesini tamamlamadığı, bir hayli eksik olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Eldeki verilere göre dört eserden biri hakkında ise henüz hiç bir bilgiye ulaşılamadığı anlaşılmıştır.
Rauf Yekta Bey is one of the most important researchers of the Republic of Turkey as well as a pioneer in the field of Turkish music and musicology. He is a researcher who realized how big the gap caused by the absence of historical research in Turkish music was, and followed the first academic methods. He deserves to be mentioned as one of the world musicologists by being the author of the article "Turkish music" in the music encyclopedia of the French musicologist D'Erlange, who has an important place in the history of world musicology. Rauf Yekta Bey mentioned that he translated some books into Turkish in some of his articles between 1889-1938 to fill the gaps in the history of Turkish music. The translation of the theoretical and historical sources of Turkish music into Turkish is as important as the French translations of the sources of music history made or commissioned by D'Erlanger for understanding eastern music. Rauf Yekta realized that he could not complete these translations alone and asked the authorities for help. Although he held various official duties such as the membership of the Turkish Music Classification and Determination Committee and the Ministry of Education Music Education Committee, he could not find the support he hoped for and the translations were not made. Since his own translations he mentioned were not published and his library is scattered today, biographers have mentioned Rauf Yekta Bey's translations in different numbers. It was decided to write this article in order to eliminate the contradictions of the information about the works translated into Turkish and to contribute to musicology. This research is limited to the translations assumed to be made by Rauf Yekta Bey only into Turkish. This research focused on the subject with the qualitative research method and determined that there are nine works mentioned that Rauf Yekta may have translated. It has been examined in detail whether this figure reflects the truth regarding the translated works. As a result, although the names of nine works are mentioned, it is understood that Rauf Yekta's translation of four works can be mentioned and he did not complete the translation of three works, and it is quite incomplete. According to the available data, it has been understood that no information has been reached yet about one of the four works.
