9. Sınıf Coğrafya Ders Kitabında Yer Alan Metinlerin Okunabilirlik Düzeyinin İncelenmesi

Ders kitapları, eğitim-öğretim ortamlarında en yaygın ve en sık kullanılan materyallerden biri olduğu için titiz bir hazırlanma süreci sonunda belli başlı bazı özellikleri taşıması gerekir. Bunlardan biri de ders kitaplarının okunabilirliğinin öğrenci seviyesine uygun olmasıdır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaöğretim 9. sınıf coğrafya ders kitabının okunabilirlik formülleriyle değerlendirilerek hedef öğrencilerin yaş seviyesine uygun olup olmadığını tespit etmektir. Araştırma, doküman incelemesine dayalı betimsel bir çalışma olarak tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmada, 2017’de güncellenip askıya çıkan Coğrafya Dersi Öğretim Programı’na uygun olarak hazırlanan ve 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılından itibaren tüm Türkiye’de uygulanmaya başlanan 9. sınıf coğrafya ders kitabından rastgele seçilen metinlerin okunabilirlik düzeyleri ölçülmüştür. Metinlerin analizinde Statistical Measurement of Gobbledygook (SMOG) okunabilirlik formülü ile Ateşman (1997) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan Flesch okunabilirlik formülü kullanılmıştır. Analizler sonucunda her iki formülden elde edilen bulguların tutarlı olmadığı görülmüştür. Buna göre SMOG okunabilirlik formülünden elde edilen sonuçlar, ders kitabının hedef kitle öğrencilerinin okuma yaşından yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Ateşman’ın uyarladığı formülden elde edilen sonuçlara göre ise bahsi geçen ders kitabının ortalama okunabilme seviyesinin kolay olduğu belirlenmiştir.

The 9. Review of the level of readability of the text contained in the Class Geography Curriculum

Teaching books are one of the most common and frequently used materials in the educational-learning environments, and they must bear certain main characteristics at the end of a rigorous preparation process. One of these is that the readability of the lesson books is in accordance with the student level. The aim of this research is to determine whether the target students are in accordance with the age level by evaluating the 9th-class geography curriculum with readability formulas. The research is designed as an illustrative study based on the examination of documents. In the study, it was prepared in accordance with the Geography Course Teaching Program that was updated and suspended in 2017 and began to be applied in all of Turkey from the 2017-2018 educational year. The results of the analysis found that the findings obtained from both formulas were not consistent. Accordingly, the results obtained from the SMOG readability formula show that the curriculum is higher than the reading age of the target audience of students. According to the results obtained from the formula adapted by Ateşman, it is determined that the average level of readability of the referred lesson is easy.

One of them is that the readability of the textbooks is suitable for the student level. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the high school 9th grade geography textbook is suitable for the age level of the target students by evaluating it with readability formulas. The research is designed as a descriptive study based on document analysis. In the study, the readability levels of randomly selected texts from the 9th geography textbook, which was prepared in accordance with the updated curriculum (2017), and started to be implemented all over Turkey from 2017-2018 academic year, were measured. In the analysis of the texts, the Statistical Measurement of Gobbledygook (SMOG) readability formula and the Flesch readability formula adapted into Turkish by Ateşman (1997) were used. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the findings obtained from both formulas were not consistent. Accordingly, the results obtained from the SMOG readability formula show that the textbook is higher than the reading age of the target audience students. According to the results obtained from the formula adapted by Ateşman, it was determined that the average readability level of the mentioned textbook was easy.
