İnsanlar hayatta kalabilmek için beslenme, barınma, giyim gibi birçok şeye gereksinim duyarlar ve harcama yaparlar. Hanehalkı gelirinin ne kadarının hangi harcama grubuna yapılacağı konusu oldukça önemlidir. Özellikle bu harcamaların ön tahmini, bireylere hanehalkı içinde yapacakları harcamaları planlamaları konusunda yardımcı olacaktır. Bu çalışmanın ilk amacı, Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu’nun Hanehalkı Bütçe Anketi 2007, 2012, 2016 verileri kullanılarak Türkiye'de hanehalkı gıda harcamalarını belirleyen faktörleri analiz etmektir. Analiz, yarı logaritmik model kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiş ve her bir değişkenin hanehalkı gıda harcaması üzerindeki etkisi ortaya konmuştur. Çalışmanın ikinci amacı ise, yarı logaritmik model ve yapay sinir ağları modeli ile hanehalkı gıda harcamalarının ön tahmin performanslarını karşılaştırarak literatüre katkı sağlamaktır. Modelden elde edilen bulgular, en önemli değişkenlerin hanehalkı reisinin yaşı, eğitim seviyesi, geliri, medeni durumu ve konuta ait özellikler olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmada tahmin edilen modeldeki potansiyel doğrusal olmama durumundan dolayı, yapay sinir ağı modeli, alternatif bir tahmin yöntemi olarak kullanılmıştır. Yarı logaritmik ve yapay sinir ağı modelleri arasındaki ön tahmin performansları karşılaştırıldığında, yapay sinir ağı modelinin daha iyi bir alternatif olduğu görülmüştür.
People need, among many things, nutrition, shelter, clothing to survive. It is very important how much of household income will be allocated for which expenditure groups. Forecasting of these expenditures will help households plan their expenditures. The first goal of this study is to analyze the factors determining the food expenditure of households in Turkey by using data of Household Budget Surveys of 2007, 2012, 2016 carried out by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The analysis is performed using a semi-logarithmic model, and demonstrated the impact of each variable on household food expenditure. The second goal is to contribute to the literature by comparing the household food expenditures forecasting performance of the semi-logarithmic model and the artificial neural networks model. Findings obtained from the semi-logarithmic model reveal that the most important variables determining food expenditure are the age, education level, income, marital status and characteristics of the household head. The artificial neural networks is used as an alternative estimation method due to the potential nonlinearity in the estimated semi-logarithmic model. As a result, the forecasting performance of artificial neural networks model outperforms the semi-logarithmic model.
