Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to reveal the knowledge, attitudes and behavior characteristics of doctors about organ donation. Instrument and Method: This work was carried out in the Kahramanmaraş province located in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. This study was conducted on the doctors working at the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü Imam University Medical School Hospital, Necip Fazıl State Hospital and Family Health Centers on the dates 01.03.2015-09.06.2015. The survey was conducted to the participants questioning their sociodemographic characteristics, their knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on organ donation. Results: 160 of the participants in our study were men (59.9%) and 107 women (40.1%) with an average age of 34.91±6.98 (min=24, max=55) 33 of the participants (12.4%) were organ donation cards, 234 (87%) were organ donations. 6) He said that he was not. The doctors said 128 (47.9 percent) wanted to donate organs, 44 (16.5 percent) did not want, and 95 (35.6 percent) did not know about it. According to the knowledge of the participants, the donable organs and tissues contained a high rate, respectively: the kidneys (n=267, 100%), the liver (n=253, 94.8%), the cornea (n=245.91.8%), the heart and heart cover (n=240, 89.9%).  The result: Our study found that doctors had significant lack of knowledge about organ donation. It was also found that the doctor’s desire to register for organ donation and organ donation was low.
