Background and Aims:Obesity is among the factors responsible for the severe course of acute pancreatitis. Adipose tissue secretes a variety of factors leading to several pathological events including inflammation and insulin resistance. In this study, we aimed to determine the presence of insulin resistance and adipocytokines in patients with acute pancreatitis.Materials and Methods:45 consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis, between the ages of 18-85 years, and 40 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Adiponectin, leptin, resistin, and tumor necrosis factor-αlevels were measured by the ELISA method on the first and fourth days in the patient group, and only on the first day in the control group. Results: Body mass index and waist circumference were significantly higher in the acute pancreatitis group than in the control group. Homeostasis Model of Assessment - Insulin Resistancewas 2.5 in the acute pancreatitis group. First and fourth day resistin levels were significantly higher in the acute pancreatitis group than in the control group (p
