Abstract:

The karma method is a method of research aimed at finding outcomes to the future, based on the findings obtained through the synthesis of quantitative and qualitative methodologies within the same research.  Although the Karma Method research that enables the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is relatively new, it has become a rapidly rising research paradigm in the field of social science. However, designing and conducting a research of a mixed method can be compelling as it requires working on two different levels of knowledge simultaneously. Being able to keep a deep look at the research issue by observing the balance of crossings and separations in the two lines of the research process requires that the framework relating to this design be clearly absorbed. The main objective of this article is to track the development in the historical context through the philosophical foundations of the research of the mixed methods, to summarize the types of design of the mixed methods and to provide a general framework for the researchers that includes theory and practice, referring to the strengths and limitations of the method. For this purpose, first the philosophical foundations and historical development of the Karma Method were transmitted and then the analytical framework, which includes the type of design, sample selection, data collection and analysis steps, was detailed.  Finally, it was pointed to the methodological contributions and limitations of the designs of the karma method. It is believed that this study, which reveals the rational and practical steps of the karma method, will be an important source of application for researchers who require a comprehensive perspective.
