Demokrat Parti’nin iktidara geldiği 1950 yılı itibariyle Türkiye’de pek çok farklılıklar görülmeye başlanmış, bu farklılıklar gerek döneminde gerekse bugüne değin olumlu yahut olumsuz pek çok eleştiriye maruz kalmıştır. Bu eleştiriler arasında İstanbul’un imarında yaşanan değişimle ilgili olanlar da vardır ki bu değişimin nedenini büyük şehirlere doğru yaşanan göçlerle birlikte ele almak gerekmektedir. Nitekim 1950’li yıllarda yoğunlaşan göçlerle beraber nüfusun artmasına dayalı olarak İstanbul’da mesken sayılarında artış yaşanmış ve bu durum kentin dokusunda büyük oranda değişikliklere yol açmıştır. Çehresi değişen İstanbul’da geniş bulvarlar ve meydanlar oluşturulmasıyla çağdaş bir görünüm elde edilmişse de tarihi eserlerin tahribatı ile de karşı karşıya gelinmiştir. İstanbul’daki imar değişiklikleri esnasında tarihi eserlerin zarar görmesi Demokrat Parti’nin olumsuz yönden tenkit edilmesine yol açmıştır. Hazırlanan makalede Vatan ve Millet Caddelerinde kaybedilen tarihi eserler üzerinde durulmuştur.
As the Democratic Party came to power in 1950, many differences began to be seen in Turkey, and these differences have been subjected to many positive or negative criticisms both in the period and until today. Among these criticisms, there are also those related to the change in the development of Istanbul, and the reason for this change should be addressed together with the migrations to the big cities. As a matter of fact, there was an increase in the number of dwellings in Istanbul due to the increase in population with the intensified migrations in the 1950s, and this situation led to major changes in the texture of the city. Although a contemporary appearance has been achieved by the creation of wide boulevards and squares in Istanbul, whose appearance has changed, the destruction of historical monuments has also been encountered. Damage to historical monuments during zoning changes in Istanbul led to negative criticisms of the Democrat Party. In the prepared article, the historical artifacts lost in Vatan and Millet Avenues are emphasized.
