Hep yeniyi ve güzeli söyleme gayesinde olan klasik Türk edebiyatı şairleri, içlerinde bulundukları toplumdan başlayarak tabiata ve bütün kâinata kadar sanata malzeme olan her şeye ulaşmaya çalışmışlardır. Elde ettiklerinin çoğunu ise mekân tasavvurlarıyla birleştirerek çeşitli imajlar oluşturmuşlardır. Bu nedenle klasik Türk şiirinde mekâna dair tahayyüller oldukça yaygındır. Dinî nitelikli yapılar da gerek mimari özelliklerinin farklı oluşu gerek inançla ilgili unsurları yansıtmaları bakımından şairleri fazlasıyla cezbetmiştir. Bunlar arasında kiliselerin ayrı bir yeri vardır. Çünkü İslamiyet’i kendine kaynak edinmiş bir edebiyatın farklı bir dine ait kutsal bir mekânı tasavvurlarında sıklıkla kullanması önemlidir. Böyle bir anlayış diğer dinlerin hâkim olduğu milletlerin edebiyatlarında yoktur. Her ne kadar bu durum klasik edebiyat için önemli olsa da bilhassa kilise mefhumu ile ilgili geniş kapsamlı bir çalışma yapılmamıştır. Biz de bundan hareketle divanlarda deyr, kilise, kilisâ, kelisâ kavramlarını taradık. Ulaştığımız manzumelerde kilisenin kullanım şekline dair elde ettiğimiz bulguları konularına göre tasnif ettik. Bunu yaparken şairlerin orijinal tahayyüllerinin olduğu beyitlere yer vermeye özen gösterdik. Bu çalışmadaki temel amacımız klasik Türk edebiyatı şairlerinin kendi inançlarına ait olmayan bir mabetle ilgili tahayyüllerini yansıtarak sosyal yaşayışın her alanıyla ne kadar ilgili olduğunu göstermek ve Türk milletinin bütün inançlara verdiği değeri ve hoşgörüyü vurgulamaktır.
Classical Turkish literature poets, who always aim to tell the new and the beautiful, have tried to reach everything that is the material of art, starting from the society they are in, to nature and the whole universe. They have created various images by combining most of what they have achieved with place conceptions. For this reason, imaginations about place are quite common in classical Turkish poetry. Religious buildings also attracted poets in terms of their architectural characteristics and reflecting elements of faith. Churches have a special place among them. Because it is important that a literature that has taken Islam as its source frequently uses a holy place belonging to a different religion in its imagination. Such an understanding does not exist in the literatures of nations dominated by other religions. Although this situation is important for classical literature, there has not been a comprehensive study on the concept of the church. Based on this, we researched the concepts of deyr, church, kilisâ and kelisa in the divans. In the poems we have reached, we have classified the findings we have obtained regarding the use of the church according to their subjects. While doing this, we took care to include the couplets with the original imaginations of the poets. Our main purpose in this study is to reflect the imaginations of classical Turkish literature poets about a temple that does not belong to their own beliefs, to show how much they are related to every aspect of social life and to emphasize the value and tolerance that the Turkish nation gives to all beliefs.
