Abstract:

The 1970s, when the increase in labor movements began, was also a period when every family in the country was struggling with a lack of livelihood. In the years when a single salary did not even cover the rent of a house, women also started working regardless of whether they were unskilled laborers or civil servants to contribute to the home economy. At this point, although employers pursue an exploitation policy, pay a lower wage to a woman even though they give the same job to a male and female employee, consider a female employee inferior and prevent a woman from fulfilling her “motherhood” responsibilities. The Progressive Women's Association, founded in Istanbul on June 3, 1975, within the Communist Party of Turkey, supported women workers, defending the rights of working women with signature works and newspapers, it listened to their complaints and thoughts through interviews and stood by them in their struggles. The aim of the study is to have detailed information about the problems of the period by closely examining what difficulties working women struggled with in the second half of the 1970s, taking into account the interviews of Women's Voice magazine, and how the Women’s Voice Magazine defended their rights with increasing labor actions and unionization. At the core of the research, Women's Voice Magazine interviews were used as a basis and the conditions of the period were approached from the workers' perspective through the statements of female workers.
