Abstract:

Omer Seyfettin, with his ideas, articles and stories, wrote his name as an important name of Turkish literature in literary history. In his works he used the elements of national history and culture primarily, as well as a writer who frequently participated in the debate of Westernization at the symbolic level. He has often mentioned his name with the difficulties and solutions proposed by the Turkish society in the process of change and renewal. This study will focus on the emphasis of three basic thoughts in the story of Omer Seyfettin's "Humanity and Dogs". The criticism of the retardation of Eastern societies with a western nazar, the thoughts on the role of the dog in the birth of civilization and the comparison of mind with heart. In addition, in the Eastern-West comparison, the 'dog' that we encounter will be explained by comparing both the Omer Seyfettin and Peyami Safa's "Fatih-Harbiye" novel. The two texts will be discussed in the intertext level while also the values emphasized by the 'dog' in the point of representation of the West will be subject to evaluation from the literary sociology perspective.
