Tüm dünyayı etkisi altına alan korona virüsü ve beraberinde gelen pandemi süreci, yaşamın tüm alanlarında etkisini göstermiş ve günümüzün en önemli konusu haline gelmiştir. Virüsten korunma önlemleri bedenlerimizi diğer insanlardan uzak tutmayı gerektirmiş, bu durum bireyin kentsel mekandaki davranışlarının değişmesine neden olmuştur. Pandemi ile yaşamımıza giren ‘yeni normal’ ve ‘mesafeli birliktelik’ kavramları, insanların kamusal alanlardaki sosyal karşılaşmalardan çekinir hale gelmesine ve daha fazla izole olmasına neden olmuştur. Oysa kentsel dış mekanlar toplumsal yaşamın gerçekleştiği, sosyal karşılaşmalar yoluyla toplumun bireylerinin birbirleri ile temas ettiği alanlardır. Pandemi sürecinde adeta uzak durulması gereken bir yer haline dönüşen kamusal alanın yeniden kentli bireylerin odağı haline gelebilmesinde sanatın birleştirici gücü önemli bir fırsat sunmaktadır. Bu kapsamda günümüzde artık küresel bir sanat akımı olarak kabul gören sokak sanatı ya da kent sanatının bir parçası olan anıtsal duvar resimlerinin kamusal farkındalığı arttıran gücü kent yönetimlerinin de dikkatini çekmiş ve giderek artan oranda kentlerde yer seçmeye başlamışlardır. Duvar resimleri anlamına gelen murallar, şehir manzarasının bir parçası olarak çoğu dezavantajlı mahallelerde bulunan binlerce insana sanat getirmekte ve umudu yenileyebilme imkanı sunmaktadır. Ülkemizin üçüncü büyük kenti olan İzmir’in deneyimi de bu yönde olmuştur. Bu çalışma, Korona Kahramanları Mural Yarışması’ndan yola çıkarak, kentsel çevrede kamusal sanatın çok boyutlu etkileri olduğunu ortaya koymakta ve kamusal sanatın şehrin yaşanabilirliğini ve sürdürülebilirliğini sağlamadaki önemini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Kentsel çevre bağlamında muralların işlevsel ve sanatsal yönlerini gerçekten anlamak için kamusal sanat ve murallar üzerine daha fazla eleştirel çalışmaya ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu anlamda araştırmanın litaratüre katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Araştırmada anket yöntemi kullanılmaktadır.

The new type of corona virus and the accompanying pandemic process, which has affected the whole world in a short time, have shown its effect in all areas of life and have become the most important issue of today. Virus protection measures are required to keep other people away from our bodies. This situation has caused people to change their behavior in urban space. The concepts of "new normal" and "distant togetherness" that came into our lives with the pandemic caused people to become afraid of social encounters in public spaces and to be more isolated. However, urban outdoor spaces are areas where social life takes place, where members of society come into contact with each other through social encounters. The public space, which has become a place to be avoided during the pandemic process we are going through, offers an important opportunity for the unifying power of art to become the focus of people again. In this context, the power of monumental wall paintings, which is now accepted as a global art movement as a part of urban art or street art "increasing public awareness" has also attracted the attention of city administrations and they have started to choose places in cities increasingly. Murals, which mean wall paintings, bring art to thousands of people, many of whom live in disadvantaged neighborhoods, as part of the urban landscape and offer the opportunity to renew hope. The experience of Izmir, the third largest city of Turkey, has also been in this direction. This study, based on the Corona Heroes Mural Competition organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, reveals that public art has multidimensional effects in the urban environment and aims to show the perceived benefits of murals in physical, social or cultural areas, and that public art is very important in ensuring the livability and sustainability of the city. More critical work on public art and murals is needed to truly understand the functional and artistic aspects of murals in the context of the urban environment. In this sense, it is thought that the research will contribute to the literature. Questionnaire method is used in the research.
