Abstract:

The main purpose of this study is to explore the opinions of parents who have 36 – 72 months old preschool children regarding to the factors affecting them when choosing toys for their children. This study has been conducted on eighteen parents – nine mothers and nine fathers who have 36 – 72 months old preschool children that lives in Nicosia, TRNC and qualifies for the sample group. Interview forms were used for gathering the data. As the subject of this study is the toy selection of parents who have 36 – 72 months old preschool children, a parent interview form which consists of 15 questions was created. The Qualitative data gathered from the interviews were analyzed by using descriptive analysis method. Suggestions are as follows: preparing the necessary toy safety regulations in TRNC, organizing family information workshops on the subject of toy selection which will be conducted under the Ministry of National Education, increasing the toy selection awareness between teachers by adding toy selection related classes into the curricula of Department of Preschool Teaching and Department of Child Development and Education programs.
