Abstract:

Abstract:

In this study, the geographical characteristics of the Karaçay Canyon and the potential as a geomorphocyte were studied. The Canyon is located in the northeastern Anadolu, in the Ardahan Ili, in the Crazy District. It is 2 km from the district center, 42 km from the Ardahan center. The Karaçay Deresi, which forms the canyon, is fed by the flowers born from the high mountains in the north and northeast of the Crazy Lake Pool. The Karaçay Deresi, which drinks the waters of the Crazy Ovası, is northwest of the district center; it forms the Karaçay Canyon and connects to the Kura River. The purpose of the study is to explain the formation of the Karaçay Canyon, its morphometric characteristics, its availability, identify its tourist attractions. For this purpose, topographic profiles have been measured with land studies. With CBS and Remote Detection Techniques, natural environment properties are analyzed and transformed into visual materials. Analysis has been made to determine the tourism potential of the canyon. A promotional brochure on the theme of geomorf tourism, which describes the location, availability and main characteristics of the canyon, has been prepared. The Karaçay Canyon has a length of 7.41 km. The width of the canyon ranges from 1.49 km to 790 m. The relative elevation difference between the valley base and the plateau surface in the canyon finds 400 m. The curvature of the canyon spots usually varies between 45% and 80%. Karaçay Canyon and its surroundings are Neogen and Kuvaterner old units. The wider area of Pliyosen covers old Andezits and Basaltic rocks. The nearest settlement to the Canyon is the Lightning Village. The historic building known as the Devil's Castle in the Canyon attracts visitors from close proximity. Karaçay Canyon is one of the least known areas of Anatolia depending on its location and characteristics. But near the canyon there are tourist attractions such as Crazy, Aktaş Lakes, Akçakale Island, Ani Harabeleri, Twelve Apostolic Church, Kinzi Castle, Bilbilan Yaylası. The Canyon is 100 km from Eastern Express and the airport. In this regard, the availability, the tourism potential is more. The temperature and rain conditions in the canyon are suitable for geomorf tourism activities in the 7 months of the year. The Karaçay Canyon, its deep valley, its curved stairs, its hydrography, its historical structures and other attractions around it will attract the attention of those interested in geomorphology, nature. Today, there is no arrangement in the canyon, except the 1.5 km walk route that extends to the Devil's Castle. The climate, topography conditions will be taken into account, the planning will be made, the addition of equipment that will offer alternate tourism opportunities to visitors to the Canyon of Karaçay will be able to provide geomorf tourism.
