Abstract:

Psychology is a branch of science that serves to recognize a person and make sense of their behavior. Religion, on the other hand, is as old as human history and is one of the values that saturate the spiritual world of human. Psychology and religion need to work together and seek solutions to problems when it comes to the conditions, processes, effects and consequences of the formation and development of the religious life that individuals experience. As a result of this need, the science of religious psychology has emerged, which deals with all kinds of beliefs, attitudes and behaviors related to religion. Sezai Karakoç, one of the poets and thinkers of the Republican period, is someone who has thought, pondered upon and written down works on Islamic issues. In this article, the influence of religion on Karakoç's life and worldview is discussed. An author who strives to live an Islamic religious life has been tried to be interpreted from the point of view of the psychology of religion, considering how he reflects religion into his inner world and how he lives in accordance with religion. As part of this study, topics such as the author's life, the structure of his thought, his literary personality and art, religion, his understanding of people and society were studied and evaluated. In addition, the concepts of “Resurrection” and “truth civilization” are the first concepts that come to mind when one utters the name Sezai Karakoç. His view of these concepts has also been tried to be put forward by a psycho-social approach. According to Karakoç, the factor of religion is important in terms of human and social life. For this reason, Islam has shaped his understanding of human and society. As a matter of fact, he reflected this understanding in the solutions that he brought to the problems of human and society, and looked at the issues from this point of view. At the same time, Karakoç emphasized in his think pieces that youth and society were in a period of depression and considered religion as an element that would end this era of depression. For this reason, he interpreted the reason for the backwardness in science and technique as departure from True Islam. In conclusion, the study concluded that the concept of religion is an element that affects and shapes Sezai Karakoç's view of life and events, attitudes and behaviors in all areas, from his daily life to his political thoughts, from his understanding of art to his philosophy of love.
