Bu araştırma Ankara Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü deneme tarlasında 20032004 yıllarında yürütülmüştür. Orta Anadolu’da sulanabilen alanlarda arpa ve buğday hasadından sonra ikinci ürün olarak yetiştirilebilecek uygun yem bitkilerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla kurulmuştur. Araştırmada materyal olarak hayvan pancarı, yem şalgamı, silajlık mısır ve sorgum kullanılmıştır. Farklı yem bitkileri üzerinde ekim tarihinin önemli bir etkisi olmuş ve arpa hasadından sonraki ekimlerde daha fazla verim ve ham protein oranı belirlenmiştir. Bu yem bitkilerinin sulanan şartlarda arpa hasadından sonra ikinci ürün olarak yetiştirilebileceği belirlenmiştir
