Introduction: Obesity is a multifactorial chronic disease of increasing prevalence in the world, gradually reaching children and adolescents. Objective: To determine prevalence and factors associated with overweight / obesity in adolescents in a private school in Belo Horizonte City-MG. Literature Review: The non-transmissible chronic diseases is challenge on the global panorama, that emphasize obesity as being simultaneously a disease and a risk factor for other diseases. Adolescence is a phase of risk for the development of obesity that tends to persist until adult life. Materials and Methods: we evaluated BMI, sexual maturation, blood pressure and eating habits of 67 male adolescents. Results: 10.40% of the sample are obese, overweight 22.40% are overweight, 58.20% are eutrophic and 9% are underweight, 2.01% are hypertensive. Inappropriate eating habits could be observed. Discussion: In this study predominates the eutrophic, but 32.84% are overweight, and 21.31% are obese, what is alarming. By analyzing the eating habits we noticed a very large consumption of caloric food with low nutritional value, what favorssubstantially the results. Conclusion: Overweight and obesity have reached teenagers, even those who regularly do physical activities, requiring actions to promote health.
