İçerisinde bulunduğumuz dönem ölümün sayılarla ifade edilir hale geldiği, tablodaki rakamların normalleştiği arkasındaki sosyal boyutun görünmez kılındığı bir şekilde karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Hastanede veya evde izole şekilde hastalıkla mücadele ederken belki de hiç olmadığı kadar Elias’ın medeni toplumlardaki ölümün yalnızlaşmasını ele alış biçimini tekrar değerlendirmekte fayda var. Hijyen alanlarına hapsedilip, yaşamın kıyısına itilen ölüm ve ölme hali aslında bizlere ne kadar da ötelesek yakınımızda olduğunu tekrar hatırlatırken ölüm kavramının sadece biyolojik değil aynı zamanda sosyolojik öğelerle de değerlendirmenin gerekliliği bu dönemde bir kez daha karşımıza çıkıyor. Bu nedenle bu makalenin amacı ölüm kavramının Elias tarafından nasıl analiz edildiğini açıklamaya çalışmak ve bunu yaparken çeşitli eserlerini bir arada değerlendirerek kavramın hem ilişkiselliğini hem de Elias’ın kendi yazıları içindeki bağlantıları ortaya koyabilmektir. Ölüm kavramının modernite ile olan ilişkisi, tarihsel süreç içerisinde nasıl değiştiği bu çerçevede değerlendirilerek ele alınacaktır. Böylelikle gündelik yaşamın kıyısına itilen bir olgu olan ölüm tekrar yaşamın bir parçası olarak analiz edilme imkânına sahip olacaktır. Orta Çağ’dan günümüze ölüm kavramının değişimini algılamak hem bugüne ışık tutarken hem de toplumsal yapının değişimiyle gündelik yaşamın en belirgin olgusunda nasıl bir değişiklik meydana geldiğini göstermesi açısından anlamlıdır. Ölümün bireysel, toplumsal, ulusal ve hatta bugünün koşullarında küresel bir mesele haline gelip gelmediğini tarihsel ve sosyolojik açıdan bakarak kavramak oldukça önemlidir. The period we are in emerges in a way that death becomes expressed in numbers, the figures in the table are normalized and the social dimension behind it is rendered invisible. Perhaps more than ever, it is worth reconsidering Elias’ handling of the isolation of death in civilized societies while dealing with illness in isolation in the hospital or at home. While the state of death and dying, imprisoned in hygiene areas and pushed to the edge of life, is actually reminding us that no matter how far we move, the necessity of evaluating the concept of death not only with biological but also with sociological elements appears once again in this period. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to try to explain how the concept of death is analyzed by Elias and to reveal both the relationality of the concept and the connections within Elias’s own writings by evaluating his various works together. The relationship between the concept of death and modernity and how it has changed in the historical process will be evaluated within this framework. In this way, death, which is a phenomenon pushed to the edge of daily life, will have the opportunity to be analyzed again as a part of life. Perceiving the change of the concept of death from the Middle Ages to the present is meaningful both in terms of shedding light on today and showing how a change has occurred in the most significant phenomenon of daily life with the change of social structure. It is very important to grasp from a historical and sociological perspective whether death has become an individual, social, national and even today's conditions global issue
