Examining the Psychological Well-Being of Nursing Students and the Affecting Factors

Abstract:

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the psychological well-being of nursing students and the factors affecting them. Methods: 576 nursing students participated into this descriptive study. The data were collected with Descriptive Information Form and Psychological Well-being Scale. For data analysis, percentages distribution, mean and standard deviation, Independent Sample-t test and One-Way ANOVA test were used. Results: The mean score of Psychological Well-being Scale was 343.39 ± 43.59. The total Psychological Well-being Scale score of the students was found to be significant according to students’ gender, age groups, classes, family and friends relations, coping with problems, method used to cope with problems, satisfaction with department, physical and mental health (P < .05 P < .01). Conclusion: It was concluded that the psychological well-being of nursing students was  affected by some socio-demographic variables, perceived relationship status and coping status and perceived health status.
