Abstract:

In this article, after giving a brief information about good morals, the elements of morality, which are also called with phrases such as “disgrace, makārih al-ahlak, bad habits, bad actions, insulting behaviors”, are discussed as the main content based on the poems of Diwan poets. In this way, based on the diwans of distinguished poets who performed poetry in the 13th century, when Turkish poetry began to evolve, and until the 19th century, when it met modern poetry, it was tried to reveal how the issue of morality was evaluated in Diwan poetry. For this reason, the great poet Yunus Emre, who is considered the cornerstone of Turkish poetry, and diwans of the poets who lived in the following centuries such as Ahmed-i Dāī, Şeyhī, Ahmet Pasha, Necātī Bey, Bākī, Fuzūlī, Fehīm, Nāilī, Ömer Nefī, Yusuf Nābī, Nedīm, Şeyh Gālib, Şeref Hanım, Laylā Hanım were examined and analyzed, and the manifestation of evil morality in Diwan poetry was determined in their works. The opinion that the implied moral qualities have an important place in poetry, and therefore in literature, as in our religion, is reinforced with quotations from the diwans.
