Abstract:

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of green tea on the female rat ovarian toxicity used in the contraceptive depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). In total, 24 female rats are divided into random 4 groups, including control group (non-treated), DMPA group, DMPA group, and green tea infusion in different doses (165 and 330 mg/gram body weight/day). The number of granulose cells, the number of ovarian follicles and the size of ovarian follicles are determined by histopathological analysis. Results: The number of granulose cells has not shown a significant difference between the groups studied. The number of ovarian follicles is more than the control group in the DMPA-adjusted group. In the groups given green tea in doses of 165 and 330 mg/gram body weight, the number of ovarian follicles in the group given only low doses has decreased significantly compared to the DMPA-adjusted group is not at a level comparable to the ragmen control group. The size of the ovarian follicle did not show a significant difference between the groups studied. The result: DMPA has caused an increase in the number of ovarian folicles, which has become old by a low dose of green tea infusion. According to this study, green tea shows that it is a useful plant that can be used in combination with the application of DMPA and which inhibits the side effects of contraceptives.
