Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: Every healthcare professional is an important part of the healthcare system. Shortage in any area creates different problems for healthcare professionals as well as other workers. The healthcare industry requires a more skilled workforce as a result of advancement in medical technology and the demand for more sophisticated patient care. Job satisfaction among healthcare professionals is increasingly being recognized as a measure that should be included in quality improvement programs. This is particularly important because employees in a healthcare delivery system are expected to provide quality patient care while working in a highly stressful environment. Satisfied employees tend to be more productive and committed to their jobs. In this study, healthcare staff satisfaction survey was planned. METHODS: A survey was performed on 302 healthcare staff that had different positions in Gölcük Government Hospital. RESULTS: Organizational climate, relationships between management and staff, decision making latitude in work environment and job motivation by organization, job security all were found to be related factors with employees retention (p<0,001). Socio-demographic factors had no relation with employee retention. The main determining factors of retaining in organization were involving decision making about their job and involving in service training (p<0,001). Priority should be given to improve relationships between management and staff. The participation of employees in organizational decision making should be provided. CONCLUSION: Developing staff and empowering them to make decisions about their work is necessary to achieve quality outcomes. Employees should feel themselves as a part of the organization.
