Abstract:

In order to define the prognostic value of neuroendocrine differentiation in colorectal adenocarcinomas, H&E sections of 45 colorectal adenocarcinoma cases are evaluated with the known prognostic factors such as tumour localization (rectum/ colon), mucin positivity (tumours with more than 50 % mucin positivity are considered as mucinous/tumours with less than 50 % mucin positivity are considered as nonmucinous), tumour grade, tumour stage (Astler-Coller), involvement of lymph nodes tumours without lymph node involvement are L0, tumours with 1 to 3 lymph node involvement are L1, tumours with more than 4 lymph node involvement are L2. In 11 cases CgA is positive (24.4 %) and in 8 cases NSE is positive (17.8 %). As a result, we detected that NSE correlated with only stageB2 (p<0.05, r=0.34), but CgA uncorrelated with whole prognostic factors.
