Özet:

This study was conducted in order to determine the level of nursing care given to the patients by the nurses employed at Dr Vedat Ali Özkan State Hospital located in the city center and the factors that affect the care. The research group consists of 113 nurses working in all departments except pediatric and physiciatry departments in Kayseri Dr. Vedat Ali Özkan State Hospital. A total of 102 nurses included in the research group since eleven nurses could not be reached either because they were on holiday or refused to be included in the study, a total of 102 nurses constituted our research group. Study data was collected through a form of questionnaire based on the literature prepared by the researcher. Chi square test was used for the statistical evaluation of the data. It was found that while the nurses did such routine tasks as giving drugs and learning facts about the patients lives they generally did not do care -related tasks. According to the departments studied; respiratory system, gastrointestinal system and body mechanical practices mostly performed in critical care units and personal hygiene and unrelated practices mostly performed in surgical units. The nurses expressed that working conditions, communication problems they experience with the patient, patients relatives, and the team, lack of motivation and the tasks they are not responsible for affecting the care they give. According to these research results; it is recommended that standards should be constituted for patients, in order to give care and control in compliance with these standards
