Abstract:

Joseph Campbell used the term monomite for the first time in his work, The Hero with a Thousand Faces (The Hero with a Thousand Faces), in 1949. The stories told in the myths are a product of the collective awareness of societies. Campbell, who suggests that the events in these stories and the changes that the characters experience are progressing on a similar line; in the structure he gives the name monomite, he has formulated the path the hero follows. The monomite theory can be applied, especially to all works that are related to the classical narrative. The aim of this study is to analyze the First Blood Film in the framework of the monomite theory. In this context, the phases and changes that John Rambo, the film’s hero, passed through in the story, are described by assessing the structure formulated by Campbell. As a result, the Hollywood film industry has adopted the main stream film language based on its origins in classical narrative. The first Blood is one of these films, and the transformation process in which the film’s hero Rambo lives is watching the path that the monomite opens.
