Abstract:

The descriptive and cross sectional research was aimed at determining the analysis of the physical and psychological symptoms of menopause in women experiencing menopause, to determine the severity of these symptoms, to examine the effect of menopause on women’s quality of life. The study was carried out in Ege University Medicine School Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Menopause Policlinic (n=150). Socio-demographical data form which was developed in accordance with the purpose of the research, Kupperman Index and WHOQOL BREF-27 Quality of Life Scale were used to collect the data. Average score of women's quality of life was found to be 81.76 ± 10.77. Of the women who participated in the research, 48.7% were in 51-56 age group and 81.3% were married. It was found that 51. 3%, 30.7%, 36.7%, 40.0%, 34.7% and 35.3% of the women complained about fatigue, joint pain, decrease in sexual intercourse, irritability, sexual aversion, insomnia, respectively. Women's knowledge of menopause, menopausal status, their ability to identify menopause, their knowledge of quality of life, their complains about menopause affected their average scores of quality of life (p<0.05). It was found that women knew menopause, could not deal with symptoms of menopause and their complains well, and the quality of their lives was affected.
