Abstract:

Introduction and Objective: This research was conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study study in order to evaluate the attitudes of mothers with 0-6 months old babies towards breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: The sample of research constitutes 235 mothers.The datas of the research were collected by face-to-face interview method using the " Introductory Information Form for Mother and Baby " and the "Breastfeeding Attitude Evaluation Scale (ETBS)". SPSS 25.0 statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the research. Statistical significance level was taken as p<0.05. Results and Conclusion: When mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding were evaluated, it was determined that most of the mothers breastfed their babies, but they had to supplement with formula milk. In addition the most of mothers stated that they had problem about inability to attach their babies to their breasts beacuse of their nipple collapse and cracking of the nipples, that they did not receive breastfeeding education, that they could not produce enough milk and that they gave formula to their babies in the first days of their lives. Statistically significant was found in terms of mothers' education level, family type, number of children and mean ETBS scores (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a statistical difference between the birth weight of the baby, health problems in the baby and baby born after planned pregnancy, and the mean ETDS score (p<0.05). When the questions about breastfeeding and feeding of the baby were compared in terms of the mean ETDS score; A statistically significant difference was found in terms of having problems in the first breastfeeding, giving both breasts while breastfeeding, reason for formula feeding, time to consider only breastfeeding, time to think about breastfeeding in total, and ETRS score averages (p<0.05).
