Abstract:

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to study the impact of refugee-themed children's literature products on students' attitudes towards refugees in 7th class Turkish lessons. Method: The research has used a mixed method to address the problem state in a way that allows different perspectives. In this framework, the pre-test-final test was applied to the explanatory state study with the semi-experimental pattern of the non-equivalent control group. The target universe of the study is high school 7th grade students, and the sample is made by Yavuz Selim High School and Farabi Imam Hatip High School 7th grade students identified as a experiment and control group. The research was carried out in the form of the application of the Attitude Measure to the Refugee Students to groups and the form of written opinion; the processing of 8 weekly activities for the products of child literature on the subject of refuge in the experimental group and the holding of semi-structured observation forms. Quantitative data of the research is a package program, while qualitative data is analyzed by the visual analysis technique. Results: The difference between the previous test and the final test in the test group is statistically meaningful, and in the control group it is not meaningful. The experimental group has found that between the forms of written opinion before and after the application, a difference in the positive direction is found in the subject of refuge from 12 to 6 target values, and a difference in the 6 is not observed. In the control group, 1 of these values has been positive, 1 has been negative and 10 has not been changed. According to the results of the observation, a development of the attitude towards refugees was also observed in the experiment group. The study, based on both quantitative and qualitative data, found that child literature products on the subject of refuge had a positive impact on students’ attitudes towards refugees in 7th-class Turkish classes.
