Müslümanların Ehl-i kitapla ilişkileri bağlamında din ve vicdan hürriyeti, birçok çalışmada genel bir şekilde ele alınmakla beraber, Müslümanların Batıyla en önemli karşılaşması sayılan Endülüs tecrübesi özelinde ele alınmamıştır. Ehl-i kitapla ilişki bağlamında din ve vicdan hürriyetine değinen Endülüs müfessirleri arasında, dinde ikrahın meşru olup olmaması meselesinde görüş ayrılıkları bulunmaktadır.
Din ve vicdan hürriyeti konusunu, “Dinde zorlama yoktur” ayeti bağlamında ele alan müfessirlerin kahir ekseriyeti, İslam Dinine girmenin gönülden inanmaya bağlı olduğunu, dinde zorlamanın caiz olmadığını, zorlama sonucu İslam’a giren bir kişinin zahiren Müslüman sayılsa bile gerçekte iman etmiş olamayacağını belirtmişlerdir. Endülüs müfessirleri de genel olarak çoğunluğun görüşünü benimsemekle beraber, bu konuda kendilerine özgü bir yaklaşım sergileyen müfessirler de bulunmaktadır. Buna göre, söz konusu ayet, batıla ikrah ile alakalı olup İslam’a girmede zorlama meşru ve geçerlidir, baskıyla İslam’a giren kişi, Müslümanlarla beraber yaşayıp hareket ettikçe, zamanla samimi bir kalple dine sarılabilecektir. Cizye meselesinde de, VI. asrın sonlarında cizye seçeneğinin kabul edilip edilmemesi hususunda devlet başkanının yetkili sayılmasına yapılan itirazdan ve cizye veren zimmînin ödemesini kabul etmenin vücubuna dair getirilen delillerden, bu meselede farklı görüşlerin olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Dolayısıyla Endülüs müfessirleri, konuyla ilgili âlimlerin genel görüşünü kabul etmekle beraber aralarında farklı düşünen müfessirlerin olduğu da görülmektedir.
Bu çalışmada, Endülüs tefsirleri taranarak konuya dair Endülüslü müfessirlerin görüş ve düşüncelerinin tespit edilip değerlendirilmesi hedeflenmektedir.
