On birinci yüzyıl, İslam dünyası açısından son derece önemli gelişmelerin yaşandığı, önemli isimlerin eserleriyle çeşitli bilim dallarının gelişmesine katkıda bulundukları kıymetli bir zaman dilimidir. Beyrûni de bu dönemde yaşamış astronomi, matematik, fizik, tıp, coğrafya, tarih ve dinler tarihi gibi çeşitli bilim dallarında çok sayıda eser vermiş bir şahsiyettir. Ünlü bilim tarihçisi George Sarton, Introduction to the History of Science adlı eserinde bu yüzyıla Beyrûnî yüzyılı adını vererek bir düşünür olarak Beyrûnî’nin önemini vurgulamıştır.
The twelfth century is a valuable period of time in which significant developments have occurred from the point of view of the Islamic world, with the works of important names contributing to the development of various disciplines of science. Beyruni has also lived in this period; he is a person who has given numerous works in various sciences such as astronomy, mathematics, physics, medicine, geography, history and religious history. The famous scientist George Sarton, Introduction to the History of Science, has emphasized the importance of Beyrunî as a thinker by giving this century the name of the Beyrunî century.
