Abstract:

The aim of this research is to making adaptation of the Unintentional Procrastination Scale into Turkish context and conducting the validity and reliability studies of the scale. The participants of the study consists of 889 university students studying in Bayburt University and Karadeniz Technical University in 2017-2018 academic year. As data collection tools, Personal Information Form, General Procrastination Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and Unintentional Procrastination Scale were used. For analysis of obtained data, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis and t test analysis for independent groups were used. The exploratory factor analysis revealed that the scale has a single-factor structure. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis conducted to verify the structure determined after the exploratory factor analysis, it was seen that the determined structure was confirmed (χ2= 34.52, df= 8, χ2/sd= 4.32, CFI= .98, NFI= .97, SRMR= .041, RMSEA=.071). The correlation analysis aimed to investigate the criterion-related validity in the present study revealed that there were low-level positive relationships between involuntary procrastination and stress and anxiety, moderate-level positive relationship between involuntary procrastination and depression, and high-level positive relationships between involuntary procrastination and general procrastination According to the reliability analysis of the Unintentional Procrastination Scale, the internal consistency coefficient was found to be .77. In addition, two half-test correlations of the scale were determined as .73.
