06.02.2023 tarihinde Doğu Anadolu Fay Zonu (DAFZ) üzerinde yerel saat 04:17’de Mw: 7.7 büyüklüğünde ve yerel saat 13:24’de Mw: 7.6 büyüklüğünde olan Kahramanmaraş merkezli iki adet büyük şiddetli depremler meydana gelmiştir. Bu depremlerden sonra 20.02.2023 tarihinde Ölü Deniz Fayı üzerinde yerel saat 20:04’te Mw: 6.4 büyüklüğünde Hatay merkezli yıkıcı bir deprem daha meydana gelmiştir. Bu depremlerden en çok etkilenen bölgelerin başında Hatay ili gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada depremden sonra Hatay’ın Antakya ve Samandağ ilçelerinde bulunan yapılardaki hasarlar gözleme dayalı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Oluşan hasarların sayısı göz önüne alındığında bölgedeki yapı stoğunun depreme karşı yetersiz olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Deprem yönetmeliklerine uygun olarak yapılan binaların yıkılmadığı ve diğer binalara göre daha az hasar aldığı belirlenmiştir. Bu durum deprem tasarım yönetmeliklerinin yeterli olduğunu ancak yapıların uygulamada yönetmeliklere uygun olarak inşa edilmediğini göstermektedir.

On 06.02.2023, two major earthquakes with a magnitude of Mw: 7.7 at 04:17 local time and Mw: 7.6 magnitudes at 13:24 local time in the center of Kahramanmaraş occurred in the Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone. Following these earthquakes, another destructive earthquake with a magnitude of Mw: 6.4 centered in Hatay occurred on February 20, 2023, at 20:04 local time, on the Dead Sea Fault. Hatay province is one of the regions most affected by these earthquakes. In this study, the damage to the structures in the Antakya and Samandağ districts of Hatay after the earthquake was evaluated based on observation. Considering the number of damages, it is understood that the building stock in the region is insufficient against earthquakes. It was determined that the buildings constructed in accordance with the earthquake regulations did not collapse and were less damaged than the other buildings. This situation shows that the earthquake design regulations are sufficient, but the structures are not built in accordance with the regulations in practice.
