Yalan, halk arasında yaygın bir şekilde kullanılan sözlü kültür ürünüdür. Günlük hayat içerisinde, zor durumda kalındığında, tepki almamak, olayları geçiştirmek, gerçeğin ortaya çıkmasıyla oluşacak sorunlara engel olmak, iyimser görünmek, üzmemek veya mutlu etmek gibi çeşitli amaçlarla bireyler tarafından sıkça kullanılmaktadır. Bu anlamda günlük hayatın vazgeçilmezleri arasında bulunmaktadır. Bununla birlikte yalana çeşitli halk inançlarında, geleneklerde, düzenlenen ritüellerde, anlatılar bünyesinde ve kültürün farklı alanlarında başvurulmaktadır. Bahse konu olan durumlar dahi halk kültürü içerisinde yalanın ne denli yaygın şekilde kullanıldığını gösterir niteliktedir. Yalan sözleri olarak değerlendirilen kalıplaşmış veya halk arasında sıklıkla kullanılan yalanlar ise konunun diğer tarafını oluşturmaktadır. Halk arasında belirli meslek gruplarına, toplumsal statülere ve çeşitli bağlamlara özel ve o alanda yaygınlaşan yalanlar yer almaktadır. Dolayısıyla söylenen kimi yalanlar, bireyin toplum içerisindeki yerini ve rolünü belli eder niteliktedir. Ayrıca belirli bir toplum veya yöre halkı arasında sıklıkla söylenen yalanlar derlenip incelenerek bölge halkı hakkında çeşitli bilgilere ulaşma imkânı mevcuttur. Yalanın kullanım amaçları ve alanları, bağlamları, işlevleri, kullananların toplum içerisindeki rolleri vb. düşünüldüğünde halk bilgisi içerisindeki yeri yadsınamayacaktır. Bahse konu olan hususlar ve bu hususlar gibi diğer bazı konular yalanın halkbilimi türü olup olamayacağını akla getirmektedir. Bu çalışmada yalanın halkbilimi türü olarak değerlendirilip değerlendirilemeyeceği incelenecektir. Türler konusunda net bir çalışma bulunamamış, bu konudaki tartışmalar çeşitli şekillerde olmakla birlikte halkbilimi türleri açısından müstakil bir çalışmayla karşılaşılmamıştır. Ayrıca türler üzerine hazırlanan çalışmaların geneli itibariyle anlatılardan (mit, masal, efsane vb.) bahsettiği görülmüştür. Bunlara karşın mevcut çalışmalardan faydalanarak yalanın halkbilimi türü olup olmadığı incelenmiş, hangi açılardan halkbilimiyle ilişk ilend irile bilec eği saptanmış ve halk kültüründeki yeri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Çeşitli yönleriyle halkbilimi ile ilişkilendirilebilen ve yakın bir bağı bulunan yalanın, yapılan inceleme ve değerlendirmeler sonucunda halkbilimi türlerinden birisi olarak kabul edilmesi önerilir.
Lie is a product of oral culture that is widely used among the people. In daily life, it is frequently used by individuals for various purposes such as not getting a reaction when faced with a difficult situation, glossing over events, preventing problems that may arise with the emergence of the truth, appearing optimistic, not upsetting, or making them happy. In this sense, it is among the indispensable parts of daily life. However, lying is used in various folk beliefs, traditions, rituals, narratives, and different areas of culture. Even the cases in question show how widely the lie is used in folk culture. The other side of the issue is the stereotyped or frequently used lies, which are considered to be lies. Among the public, there are lies that are specific to certain occupational groups, social statuses, and various contexts and are widespread in that field. Therefore, some lies told reveal the place and role of the individual in society. In addition, it is possible to reach various information about the people of the region by compiling and examining the lies that are frequently told among a certain society or local people. The purposes and areas of use of the lie, its contexts, functions, the roles of the users in society considered, and its place in public knowledge cannot be denied. The aforementioned issues and some other issues such as these bring to mind whether the lie can be a folklore type. In this study, it will be examined whether the lie can be evaluated as a folklore genre. A clear study on the genres could not be found, and although the discussions on this subject were in various forms, no independent study was encountered in terms of folklore genres. In addition, it has been seen that the studies on genres generally refer to narratives (myth, tale, and legend). On the other hand, by making use of the existing studies, it was examined whether the lie is a folklore type, it was determined in which aspects it could be associated with folklore, and information was given about its place in folk culture. As a result of the examinations and evaluations, it was concluded that the lie, which can be associated with folklore in various aspects and has a close connection, should be accepted as one of the folklore genres.
