Abstract:

The practices targeting children in need of protection in our country extend back to the period before the establishment of our republic. Institutionally, the most well-known of these practices is the "Himaye-i Etfal Cemiyeti." Subsequently continuing its efforts under the name "Society for the Protection of Children," the society expanded its areas of service during the early years of our republic. It became a significant societal institution by broadening its institutional care efforts and by aiming to increase awareness about children in society. This was achieved through the publication of written materials and periodicals. In this study, as a social service organization during the republican era, the "Himaye-i Etfal Cemiyeti," which exists to provide services for the well-being of children, had its periodical publication "Gürbüz Türk Çocuğu Magazine" analyzed through the method of document analysis. The study revealed the specific directions in which the content related to children's rights was manifested in the magazine. Accordingly, it was concluded that the content related to children's rights in the "Gürbüz Türk Çocuğu Magazine" is shaped within the themes of the right to health, the state's responsibility towards children, the uniqueness attributed to children, opposition to ill-treatment, the right to play, and the promotion of rights.
