Abstract:

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable scale that can be used to reveal high school students’ expectations from education and teaching. Therefore, the scale development stages have been followed. Expert opinions for materials prepared on the basis of literature scan and students' opinions were taken. The data of the study was collected in 2019. The experimental form created in Kırşehir was filled by 764 students studying in various high schools and this data was analyzed by the opening factor (AFA). For the verifying factor analysis (DFA), 608 students in different high schools in Gaziantep were reached and this data was analyzed. In the opening factor analysis, the structure of the scale was found to consist of 36 matters and 4 factors. These factors have been named as "Qualified Education-Teaching Expectations", "Our Expectations for School Rules Change and Improvement", "Our Expectations for Teachers and School Managers" and "Our Expectations for Social and Scientific Events". The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency ratio for the whole measurement is .954. The verifying factor analysis results showed that the values obtained for the conformity index were high and acceptable. Thus, the scale’s 36 matters and 4 factor structure have been verified. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement tool has been obtained that can be used to reveal the expectations of high school students from their education and teaching. The disclosure of high school students’ expectations and the arrangement of education and teaching according to these expectations is important in the context of the increased effectiveness of education and teaching. Therefore, it is recommended that this scale, which is developed to reveal the expectations of students from education and teaching, is valid and reliable, and is implemented in different samples. It will also be helpful to investigate the expectations of students for each field of study.
