Osmanlı toplumu askerî ve reaya olmak üzere iki temel esas üzerine şekillenmiştir. Yönetici zümre olarak da tanımlanan askerîler bu yönüyle hem Osmanlı merkez hem de taşra teşkilatında özel bir yere sahip olmuşlardır. 17. yüzyılın sonlarında Osmanlı Devleti’nin batı cephesinde uzun soluklu harplerde Kutsal İttifak kuvvetlerine karşı mücadele veriyor olması askerî zümrenin topyekûn olarak cepheye intikalini zorunlu hale getirmiştir. Bu kapsamda Osmanlı taşrasındaki askerîleri teftiş edip kayıt altına almak için bir dizi girişimlerde bulunulmuştur. İşte bu çalışmada Edremit Kazası’ndaki sayımdan hareketle kasaba ve köylerdeki askerî zümreyi araştırıp bunların dağılımına dair bir tablo ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda askerî zümreyi meydana getiren kapıkulları, sipahiler, din ve vakıf görevlileri ile sâdât ayrı ayrı ele alınmış ve bunların mahalle ve köylerdeki varlıklarına dair sayısal veriler oluşturularak Edremit Kazası’nın sosyoekonomik ve askerî dinamikleri içerisindeki yerleri değerlendirilmiştir. Böylece konuya hem Osmanlı coğrafyasında askerî zümrenin varlığına dair Anadolu’nun batı kıyısından bir pencere açmak, hem de Edremit Kazası’nın yerel tarihine katkı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma çerçevesinde dönemin ana kaynaklarından olan Osmanlı Arşivi’nde çeşitli fonlardaki belge ve defterler ile Edremit Şer’iyye (kadı) Sicilleri’nden yararlanılmıştır.
The Ottoman society was shaped based on two fundamental principles, which were the military and the subjects. Also defined as the ruling class, the military had a special place in both the central and the provincial organizations with this aspect. The fact that the Ottoman State was fighting long-termed battles on the western front, struggling against the forces of the Holy Alliance in the late 17th century, made the altogether deployment of the military class to the front an obligation. Within this framework, there were many attempts to inspect and record the military in the Ottoman provincial regions. Here in this study, the purpose is to research the military class in the towns and villages of Edremit District and set forth a statement about their distributions based on the census in Edremit District. Within this scope; the sultan’s household troops, cavalrymen, religious and wakf officials, and sâdât which all make up the military class are handled one by one, their places in socio-economic and military dynamics are evaluated, and quantitative data on the presence of this class in Edremit’s neighbourhoods and villages are put together. In this way, both opening a window to the topic about the presence of military class in the Ottoman geography from the western coast of Anatolia and providing contribution to Edremit District’s local history are intended. Within the framework of the study, documents and defters in various funds in the Ottoman Archive, which is one of the periods, and Edremit Şer’iyye Records (qadi’s registers) were benefited from.
