In this study, it is aimed to examine the struggle during early years of Turkish Republic against malaria which has been known to be the most wide-spread illness since antiquity and which still maintains its importance, within the perspective of health communication. In Turkey, between 1923 1950, a big budget was allocated to the health sector within the context of the fight against malaria, and an intensive and continuous effort was put into creating public awareness. In the struggle against malaria, it is observed that the determination of the policy makers against a public health threat is extremely important. Besides, malaria was accepted to be a major threat to the modernization ideals of young Turkish Republic, and a great struggle was given accordingly. From the perspective of health communication, Turkish Republic's early period anti-malaria struggle is considered to be important and successful in developing health policies, maintaining disease control, and creating public awareness.
