Abstract:

: The main purpose of this study is to investigatewhether there is a long-term relationship among economic growth, militaryexpenditure and democratic opening variables as a result of terrorist incidentsin Turkey. In this regard, time series analysis has been used in the study for1970-2015 periods. According to the findings, the impact of the democraticopenings on the terrorist attacks varies in the short and long term. In otherwords, in the short term after the announcement of the democratic openingpackage, a positive impact on terrorism was witnessed. That is, after theannouncement of the democratic opening package, the terrorist incidents reducedsignificantly. But this effect disappeared in the long run. This results showsthat the economic and social solutions is more effective than the spending onthe military forces (such as defense spending, military spending etc.) toreduce the terrorist attacks.]]>
