The arrival in Sydney in 1868, of Nightingale protegé Lucy Osburn, marked the start of nursing reform in Australia. The first major investigation of the nursing profession in Australia was the Kelly Report of 1943 in New South Wales. This article aims to introduce to the reader improvement in standards of nursing care and changing of nursing image and power which are obtained for nursing education and practice in Australia.
