Abstract:

Abstract Objective: Negative experiences in child periods are also reflected in the adulthood of the individual. It is thought that traumatic situations experienced by mothers in childhood affect their liking of children. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between childhood trauma and child liking status in mothers with infants aged 0-1 years. Method: This study was carried out between April and June 2018 with 343 mothers whose babies were being treated at a training and research hospital in a southeastern province. Personal Information Form, Childhood Psychological Trauma Scale and Barnett Liking of Children Scale were used to collect data. Results: It was found that the mean childhood mental trauma total score of the mothers was 49.65±7.06, the mean score of liking children was 70.19±10.87, and the scores of liking children were statistically significantly higher in mothers who grew up in an extended family and had 5 or more siblings. There was a negative and weak correlation between the scores of liking children and emotional abuse (r=-.234,p=.000) and sexual abuse (r=-.234,p=.000), physical abuse (r=-.150,p= .005) was found to be negatively and very weakly correlated. A positive and weak relationship was found between loving children and physical neglect (r=.202 p= .000) and emotional neglect (r=0.233,p= .000) scores. Conclusion: In the study, it was found that mother who have childhood trauma had lower likelihood scores.
