Abstract:

The first edition of the work entitled Frankfurt School, Criticism, Society and Science was published in August 2015, and the second edition was published in January 2016 by the Detailed Publications. The author, Kurtul Gülenç, is Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Architect Sinan University of Fine Arts. The researcher has many publications in the field of social science philosophy. The author’s work is booked from the doctoral thesis he wrote in the Liberation Dinçer Consultancy at the Hacettepe University. The book is a collection of the opinions of the Frankfurt School. The main argument of the book claims that the Critical Theory (ET) retains its up-to-date while addressing the political, economic and social problems that exist today. According to the author, in search of solutions to these problems, it is necessary to take into account the new comments of ET in the context of historical social conditions. The book consists of three main sections: Frankfurt School and Criticism, Frankfurt School and Society and Frankfurt School and Science. In the first part, the link between criticism and liberation is established, while in the second part, the relationship between the capitalist society, the individual and the nature is discussed from a historical social perspective. In the third chapter we refer to the philosophical differences between positivism and ET. But due to the proximity in the contents of the sections, the related titles are processed in relation to each other and from time to time. In the first two parts of the book, the author summarized the arguments of ET and in the third part revealed the original claims and results.
