Abstract:

Architecture, where function and aesthetics meet the common denominator, comes to life inspired by the art movement of the period to which it belongs. Art Nouveau art movement, which can be said to have its roots in Arts and Craft, was effective in the late 19th and early 20th century and had reflections not only in the architectural field but also in textile (fabric/clothing design) field. Although it is named differently in different geographies with the names Modern Style, Yellow Book Style, Fin de Siècle Style, Jugendstil, Secession Style, this movement, providing a new perspective on art, showed itself mostly in the field of architecture in the early days. The floral lines and wavy forms that manifest themselves in the design of fabrics and clothing in the architectural shell that has a plastic value are indicative of being influenced by nature. The Art Nouveau art movement, which gave its name to an era, still affects designers from all fields today. This study, which includes fabric (weaving/printing) and clothing design examples designed by Textile and Fashion Design undergraduate students inspired by the architectural works of Antoni Gaudi, one of the pioneers of the Art Nouveau art movement, examines the interaction of architecture and textile. Student studies are used as materials in the study. As a result of the study, architectural and textile interaction is evaluated in the shape, form, pattern, color, texture titles. At the end of the study, student designs are presented in a table with the criteria mentioned above.
