Abstract:

In this article, the narrative elements of George Herbert Wells (1866-1946), known for his works in the field of science fiction and one of the founders of this field, were evaluated in the context of body sociology. In addition to the data obtained in field studies, Wells’s narratives and similar primary sources can also be examined from a theoretical point of view. Based on this understanding, in this article, the main characters in Wells’s A Story of Days to Come and the aspects that can be discussed in the theoretical context of today’s body sociology are tried to be revealed. Analyzes were carried out to determine which narrative elements of Wells’s narrative characters can be considered as the pioneers of theories and concepts in today’s body sociology literature. In the article, which was carried out as a qualitative research, interpretive phenomenology was used as a research design. As a result of all these studies, the narrative elements of Wells’s narrative characters were put side by side with the unique explanations of the field of body sociology, and it was tried to make the quality of “juxtaposition and relationship building” in scientific studies operative. Through the narrative, description and transfers made from the field of body sociology, the aspects of Wells’s narrative characters that make meaningful contributions in terms of the concepts of “highlighting the body” and “fashion” have been tried to be presented to the attention of the reader by providing literature support.
