Öz Osmanlı Devleti’nin yıkılışı ve Türkiye Cumhuriyetinin kuruluşu ile toplumda değişimler görülmüştür. Osmanlı'nın yıkılışından Cumhuriyete uzanan süreç birçok sanat eserine konu olmuştur. Orhan Pamuk'un 1982 yılında yayımlanan Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları romanı da bu süreci yansıtan romanlardan biridir. Cumhuriyetin kurulmasından sonra gerçekleştirilen ve sosyal hayata etkisi olan inkılaplar romanda söz konusu edilir. Işıkçı ailesinin bu süreçte yaşadıkları, üç kuşağın etrafında şekillenir. Sosyal yaşamdaki bu değişimlerin, aile ve kadınların üzerindeki etkisi söz konusudur. Batılılaşan aile yapısı, Nişantaşı ve çevresindeki zengin aileler anlatılırken kadınların sosyal yaşam içindeki yerleri ele alınacaktır. Romanda kadının evlilik hayatındaki yeri, çalışma hayatı içindeki konumu ve eğitimine dair dönemin yapısını ele veren bilgiler mevcuttur. Cevdet Bey'in nişanlılık sürecinden beri anlatılan zamanda, Cevdet Bey'in hayalindeki evlenilecek kadın rolünü soylu ve kültürüne yakın ailenin kızını seçmesi ön plandadır. Cevdet Bey zengin bir tüccar olduğu için Şükrü Paşa'nın kızı Nigan Hanım'ı kendisine uygun görür. Ağabeyi Nusret'in Ermeni sevgilisi Mari ile birlikte yaşamasına anlam veremez. Bu incelemede Cevdet Bey'in ailesinin içindeki kadın kahramanlar ele alınmıştır. Evlilik ve eğitim konusu çerçevesinde kadınlar incelenmiştir. Cumhuriyetin etkisiyle dönemin Türkiye'sinde kadının yeri belirtilmiştir. Romandan yapılan alıntılarla Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları romanında kadın kahramanların toplumdaki yeri, kahramanların belirttiği duygu düşüncelerle verilecektir.
The collapse of the Ottoman State itself and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey have seen changes in society. The process extending from the destruction of the Ottoman to the Republic has been the subject of many artworks. Orhan Pamuk's Cevdet Mr. and the Sons, published in 1982, is one of the novels that reflects this process. The incrusts carried out after the establishment of the Republic and which have an impact on social life are discussed in the novel. The lighting family is formed around the three generations that they live in this process. The impact of these changes in social life on families and women is discussed. The western family structure, Nişantaşı and the wealthy families around it will be discussed while the places in the social life of women will be discussed. The novel contains information about the woman's place in the marriage life, the position in the work life and the structure of the period of her education. At the time Cevdet Mr. has been told since the marriage process, Cevdet Mr.'s dream married woman's role is at the forefront of choosing the daughter of a noble and cultural family. Cevdet Mr. is a wealthy trader and she sees the daughter of Shukru Pasha, Mrs. Nigan, suitable for her. His brother, Nusret, cannot understand that he lives with his Armenian girlfriend, Mari. In this study, the female heroes within the family of Mr. Cevdet were addressed. Women are studied in marriage and education. The place of the woman in the Republic of Turkey was indicated. With quotes from the novel, Mr. Cevdet and his sons in the novel will be given the place of female heroes in society, the feelings the heroes point out with the thoughts.
Orhan Pamuk's novel Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları, though it was written in the 1970s but it could only be published in 1982, beside being his first work, it is also different in terms of format compared to the novels he had written in later years. Whether dealing with individual or social issues, the phenomenon of "the other" is very common in Orhan Pamuk's novels. Orhan Pamuk dwells on the concept of “the other” in his novels intensionally. In fact, it must be said that “the other” is the dynamic which provides the factor of plot and conflict in his many novels.In this study, initially a brief and general description of the other “woman” phenomenon is given. Later on, the impact and extent of the phenomenon of “woman” on the three generations of Işıkçı family's feelings, thoughts attitudes and behaviours in Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları have been analysed.
