Abstract:

Purpose: Identifying research was carried out in a psychiatric clinic with the aim of determining the intrinsic marking, self-respect and the level of social support perceived in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.  The study was conducted with 162 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and 200 bipolar disorders, who are referring to the psychiatric clinic of two state hospitals and one state university hospital. The data is collected with the Patient Information Form, the Intellectual Damage Measure in Mental Diseases (RHIDÖ), the Rosenberg Self-Honours Measure (RBSÖ) and the Multidimensional Detected Social Support Measure (CBASDÖ). The findings: according to the diagnosis of patients, the status of diagnosis, the attempt to suicide and the regular arrival of their controls, a statistically meaningful difference between the RHIDO score average was found. The average RHID score of patients followed by the diagnosis of schizophrenia is significantly higher than those followed by the diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Those who do not know the diagnosis, who are in suicide attempt and who do not regularly come to their controls, the RHIDÖ score average is higher.  There is a positive relationship between the patient’s RHIDO and the RBSO points. There is a negative relationship between the patient’s RHID and the CBD points.  The result: there is a relationship between the low self-respect of patients and the low social support they perceive and the intrinsic marking. Therefore, it becomes important to plan and implement efforts to increase patient self-esteem and social support.
