Abstract:

In the present study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between secondary school students’ social media addiction, loneliness and well-being. The sample of the study consists of 481 students studying at secondary school (290 girls and 191 boys) in Tavşanlı district of Kütahya city in 2021-2022 academic year. For the data collection, the Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents, UCLA Loneliness Scale Short Form, Five-Dimensional Well-Being Model Scale for Adolescents and Personal Information Form were used. “Pearson Correlation” and “Multiple Linear Regression” were used to analyze the data. According to the findings of the study, a positive and significant relationship was found between social media addiction and loneliness scores, a negative and significant relationship was found between “social media addiction and well-being” and “loneliness and well-being” scores of secondary school students. In regression analysis, well-being was predicted by social media addiction and loneliness. They explained 14,3% of total variance of well-being. The results of the study were discussed depending on the statistical results and some suggestions were given.
